Classroom Kitchen Monster Apples

Bring laughter and learning to your classroom with Céline’s Monster Apples – a fun and simple recipe where students build their own goofy apple faces. This activity supports fine motor skills and gives students ownership. This download is for any teacher seeking an easy, engaging way to teach food skills. Thank you to Céline Pétrisot, coordinator of the After School Program at the Portail de l’Immigrant Association in Calgary, for submitting this creative recipe!

Classroom Kitchen Monster Apples

Classroom Kitchen Monster Apples

Ingredients

2 apples
30 mL (2 Tbsp) nut butter or alternative
2 or 3 strawberries
15 mL (1 Tbsp) sunflower seeds
16 blueberries

NOTE: We like using blueberries for eyes but you can get creative!

Directions

Cut the apples into quarters and trim out the core. Slice out a groove in the middle section from the outside of each quarter. Do not cut all the way through the apple (this will be the “mouth”).
Spread some nut butter or alternative into the open section (the mouth) of the apple piece. This will act as “glue.”
Slice the strawberries. Add one slice to the middle of the mouth to look like a tongue.
Add seeds to the top and bottom of the mouth to look like teeth, sticking them into the nut butter.
Add 1–3 small dollops of nut butter or alternative to the top of the apple piece and “glue” the blueberries on top to look like eyes.
